Actor Alan Alda thinks it’s extremely important that scientists learn how to properly communicate. In his younger years, Mr. Alda’s father wanted Alan to become a doctor, but chemistry did not prove to be his thing. This lack of understanding on the subject has prompted Mr. Alda into writing a book on why it’s important for those working in the science industry learn how to better communicate. Mr. Alda uses an example of his own experience at the dentist and not understanding a procedure his dentist was about to undergo on Mr. Alda.
- The public is separated from science, because the public doesn’t have the time to read up on all of the new scientific findings.
- Doctors need to communicate so that the patients know what they are doing.
- Alan Alda is using improvisational theater to help doctors communicate with their patients in a more effective way.
“It’s a beautiful experience to learn what science is up to. It’s just, just wonderful.”
